The debate between Democratic
Vice President Joe Biden and
his Republican rival, Paul Ryan, were followed by 51.4
million viewers in the U.S. major private channels, reported the audience
measurement company Nielsen.
Among cable networks, Fox News was the leader in
the debate last night, held in Danville
(Kentucky), with 10 million of outstanding
face to face, rather than the joint hearing of MSNBC (4.38 million)
and CNN (4.15 million).
Among the generalists, CBS scored an audience
of 8.3 million, followed closely
by ABC with 8.28 million and NBC
with 7.8 million.
Final estimates include other
stations that broadcast the debate
between the vice presidential candidates, such as public PBS,
Univision and Telemundo.
The hearing of the face-off
between Biden and Ryan was 26 percent
less than the brand's 2008 debate
between Biden and
Republican Sarah Palin, which was 69.9 million.
The first of three presidential debates, on October 3, was
followed by 67.2 million people
in the U.S., and had a favorable
impact to the Republican
candidate Mitt Romney, who has succeeded in
the polls a slight advantage since.
The debate between the vice presidential candidates
do not usually have a strong influence on the course of the surveys, but yes it
was 2008 in
television audiences, being the second
'face to face' among most watched vice presidents since 1984 between George
H . W. Bush and Geraldine
Ferarro.
For the conservative Fox News Channel,
in addition, the Biden-Palin showdown became
the most watched program in its
history with 11.1 million viewers.
