The Debate Between Biden and Ryan in Numbers

Interesting is the analysis conducted by the Washington Post about the vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and his Republican rival, Rep. Paul Ryan (Wis.).

And is that when politicians talk, analysts are fixed throughout.

And that was precisely what made Chris Calizza in his column, The Fix.

Calizza bother to list some of the words that either caught his eye, or were considered important during the heated debate both held last week in Danville, Kentucky.

Among other issues, Biden and Ryan discussed the Middle East conflict, Medicare, Iran, taxes and abortion.
Here, for you to do your own analysis, some of the figures in question:

  • 30, the number of occasions when Biden mentioned the word curl and Medicare. Apparently, the issue of health coverage is more important than it seems.
  • "47 percent", a number that will probably remain uncomfortable for Mitt Romney, Republican presidential candidate.
  • 53, the number of occasions on which the name of the Republican candidate to the White House was mentioned in the debate.
  • 3, the number of times that Biden said the word "nonsense". That was the label's vice president Ryan's stance on foreign policy.
  • 14, the number of times that Biden referred to Ryan as "my friend", although little was in friendly encounter
  • 4, the occasions on which each candidate said "abortion."
